Low–code is a software development approach that requires little to no coding in order to build applications and processes. A low–code development platform uses visual interfaces with simple logic and drag-and-drop features instead of extensive coding languages.
OutSystems is a low-code development platform originally designed to be a gamechanger in the world of low-code tools. It has a full suite of features, including a WYSIWYG editor, drag-and-drop features to build your apps visually, process and workflow mapping, an app marketplace to choose pre-built apps and templates from, and more.
Kissflow launched in 2012 and brought a new paradigm to low-code. It completely eliminated coding requirements, and targeted itself at companies who want to open up app development to all business users–not just programmers. A lot of thought has gone into the design and layout, so expect it to feel more like a modern cloud tool than a legacy development option. It has a powerful form builder and WYSIWYG editor–you can create and develop your own forms and applications without even needing coding knowledge.
Appian has been in the low-code development platform game for a while, and many users still believe in it. It has the usual suite of features that you’d expect, a drag-and-drop visual interface, third party app integrations, and the ability to build mobile apps.
Zoho Creator is one of the leading low-code development providers on the market, with usual features such as a form builder, visual development interface, and features to build your own mobile apps. Unlike some of the other tools on this list, it does not support for third party app integrations.
Google App Builder is the newest entrant for making apps. It is heavy on creating mobile apps, and shows a lot of promise. As expected, it does a few things really well, but does not venture into areas where it needs to add significant features.
